The Pittsburgh Penguins have missed the NHL playoffs for the second straight season after the Washington Capitals defeated the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday night to earn the final wild card spot.
Pittsburgh needed regulation losses by both Washington and the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday in order to have a chance at making the playoffs.
Now, Game #82 will have no meaning for the Penguins, as they take on the New York Islanders Wednesday night.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Something new is coming to Johnstown. On Tuesday, the Pennsylvania Department of Health issued 23 medical marijuana dispensary permits. Two of those permits were issued for dispensaries in the city of Johnstown. Franklin BioScience – SW LLC and Harvest of Southwest PA LLC will both receive permits as part of phase II of the medical marijuana program. Right now, the closest medical marijuana dispensary to Johnstown is Herbology, which is about an hour away in Altoona.
EBENSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — The Ebensburg PotatoFest is now canceled.
It was supposed to be held on Sept. 26, the Ebensburg Main Street Partnership said in the announcement.
In its press release they said the health and safety of the community, volunteers and attendees was a top priority, and would have been difficult to maintain under current department of health and CDC guidelines.
Officials say they look forward to bringing the event back next year.

(AP) — Authorities say a man was rescued after at least three days at the bottom of an abandoned stone cistern near the landmark Pagoda overlooking the eastern Pennsylvania city of Reading. The Reading Eagle reports that the man was healthy enough to climb out on his own on a city fire department rope ladder Friday morning. Fire department rescuers were dispatched shortly before 8:30 a.m. Friday after police found him underground through the 3-foot-wide opening near the concrete steps at the foot of the stairs leading to the century-old landmark atop Mount Penn.
PITTSBURGH (WJAC) — Pittsburgh Pirates top pitching prospect Paul Skenes will reportedly begin the 2024 season with the organization's Triple-A affiliate, the Indianapolis Indians, team GM Ben Cherington told reporters Monday.
Earlier this month, the team announced that Skenes would begin the season in the minor leagues, but did not specify whether it would be in Double-A or Triple-A.
Skenes was drafted by Pittsburgh last year as the number one overall pick in the MLB amateur draft, just weeks after he helped guide the LSU Tigers to a collegiate National Baseball Championship.
CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — Police in Cambria County confirmed a Westmont Hilltop wrestler was charged for stealing a gun at West Hills Fitness in Lower Yoder Township.
Court documents said Ethan Kelly, 18, was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property on Tuesday. Both charges were classified as felonies.
His record this year for Westmont was 37-4. He placed third in the 138 pound weight class in the Southwest Regional Class Double-A Tournament in Indiana, PA, last weekend.

LOS ANGELES (TND) — Actor Nick Pasqual stabbed his estranged girlfriend multiple times in her Los Angeles home, prosecutors announced. Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said Pasqual, 34, who had roles in "Rebel Moon", "Poor Paul", and "National Day Riff," attacked the woman. People identified her as Allie Shehorn, a Hollywood makeup artist. In a news release, Gascón said Pasqual was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempted murder, first-degree residential burglary, and one count of injuring a spouse, cohabitant, fiancé, boyfriend, girlfriend or child’s parent.
