At least two people injured after Coca-Cola truck collides with buggy near Martinsburg

UPDATE | Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — Authorities say at least two people were injured Tuesday afternoon when a Coca-Cola truck collided with a horse and buggy in North Woodbury Township. Officials say the crash occurred just before 3 p.m. in the area of Cove Mountain Road and Auction Road, near Martinsburg. 911 officials say the horse was also injured in the crash and authorities have not yet confirmed the extent of its injuries.

Backup freshman QB leads Alabama to national championship win in OT

ATLANTA -- Tua Tagovailoa threw a 41-yard touchdown to DeVonta Smith to give No. 4 Alabama a 26-23 overtime victory against No. 3 Georgia to win the College Football Playoff national championship Monday night. Tagovailoa entered the game at halftime, replacing a struggling Jalen Hurts, and threw three touchdown passes, including the game-ender to give the Crimson Tide its fifth national championship since 2009 under coach Nick Saban. After Alabama kicker Andy Pappanastos missed a 37-yard field goal that would have won it for the Tide (13-1) in the final seconds of regulation, Georgia (13-2) took the lead with a 51-yard field goal from Rodrigo Blankenship in overtime.

Chinese national busted, allegedly made millions helping criminals commit ID theft, fraud

WASHINGTON (AP) — An international law enforcement team has arrested a Chinese national and disrupted a major botnet that officials said he ran for nearly a decade, amassing at least $99 million in profits by reselling access to criminals who used it for identity theft, child exploitation, and financial fraud, including pandemic relief scams. The U.S. Department of Justice quoted FBI Director Christopher Wray as saying Wednesday that the “911 S5” botnet — a network of malware-infected computers in nearly 200 countries — was likely the world's largest.

Family speaks out after police say infant with local ties is killed by family friend

Cambria County, Pa. (WJAC) — A Texas man is charged with capital murder for killing an infant whose mourning family is from our area. Ahren Joshua DeHart was just one year old when he was killed last week. 6 News spoke with Brandon DeHart, baby Ahren's father. "I would never expect anything like this to happen," he told us. Brandon is a graduate of Conemaugh Valley High School and moved to El Paso, TX to serve in the military.

Local car washes see spike in business as drivers try to 'wash' away winter

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Now that we are beginning to have some warm weather, people are ready to put winter behind them which for most means finally getting a car wash. At Symon’s Auto Wash during this time of year, there is typically a line of cars wrapped around the building and even sometimes out onto the road waiting their turn to wash away what winter left behind on their cars.

'Bar-style' curling rink opening in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa (WJAC) — According toNBC Affiliate WPXI, a "bar-style" curling rink will be opening in the Pittsburgh area, just in time for the colder weather. Sliders Curling, America’s first competitive, bar-style ice curling ice rink, according to their website, will be opening on Nov. 25. The rink is located nearLumberjAxes in Millvale. Staff says that COVID-19 precautions are in place and the business plans to remain open all winter.

'I hope it was an accident:' First responder testifies at hearing for Clearfield Co. teen

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa (WJAC) — A 14-year-old boy who is accused of shooting and killing a 12-year-old girl late last month made an appearance in Clearfield County court on Friday. Aaron Klingensmith allegedly told state troopers that he pointed a gun at the girl and shot her on April 28th. Klingensmith also allegedly told investigators that he has an understanding of guns and gun safety. Authorities say he allegedly retrieved the gun from the top of a gun safe in the living room of a Brady Township home, along Bearfield Road.

Cambria County nursing home resident celebrates 101st birthday with ice cold beer

PORTAGE, Pa. (WJAC) — A resident of a Cambria County nursing home celebrated his 101 birthday with an ice cold beer. Francis Warner, known by family and friends as “Uncle Bunny,” celebrated his birthday Thursday at Maple Winds Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Portage. Staff say they took special safety precautions so Warner could see his family. They say Warner’s room was also decorated and he was served a birthday cake.

Month of activities planned as restoration continues for East Broad Top Railroad

ROCKHILL FURNACE, Pa. (WJAC) — Railroads and their development have played a significant role in our region's history and development. In Huntingdon County, the restoration and revitalization of the East Broad Top Railroad remains on track. The East Broad Top in its earliest day in the 1800’s directly tied to the foundation of Pennsylvania’s industrial history -- it was a coal hauling rail line. Over the years, there was transformation. In the 1960’s it became a tourist railroad, with an eye on restoration – to preserve the national historic landmark.

UNC system spends $90 million annually on DEI staffers, watchdog report shows

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (TND) — The University of North Carolina (UNC) system spends at least $90 million annually to employ just under 700 staffers devoted to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, according to watchdog group OpenTheBooks. Of the system’s DEI staffers, 288 are listed in its payroll, according to OpenTheBooks. The report found another 398 individuals worked in DEI-related roles that did not appear in payroll records, such as members of DEI councils and committees.
