SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — State Correctional Institution Somerset is on lockdown Tuesday afternoon following an inmate assault, the Department of Corrections confirmed.
Authorities say one inmate assaulted another around 11:30 a.m. at the medium-security all male prison.
The inmate who was assaulted was taken to a nearby hospital outside the prison for evaluation, authorities say.
Officials say no staffers were injured during the assault.
The unit remains under lockdown as the investigation continues.
