JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — Alaska's new election system — with open primaries and ranked voting — has been a model for those in other states who are frustrated by political polarization and a sense that voters lack real choice at the ballot box.
Used for the first time in 2022, the changes helped propel the first Alaska Native to a seat in Congress. They could be short-lived.
Opponents of ranked voting want to repeal it and are entangled in a legal fight over whether their initiative will be able to remain on Alaska's November ballot.
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- East College Avenue near the Nittany Mall has reopened after PennDOT crews fixed a sinkhole that was discovered Saturday.
PennDOT said crews have filled the hole with stone and concrete and have paved the roadway.
The road had had been closed since Saturday when the sinkhole was discovered.
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation officials said the sinkhole was 4 feet by 5 feet wide.

WASHINGTON (WJLA) — Howard University in D.C. rescheduled the graduation ceremony for its nursing school after a chaotic scene erupted on Thursday.
A large crowd drew to watch the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences students graduate, but the crowd grew upset and chanted “Let us in” when they were denied entrance to the building.
Posts on social media show crying graduates and angry relatives and friends.
Inside the ceremony, the Dean of the Nursing School at one point said, “Because of the size of the room and because our relatives sometimes do not know how to act, the fire department is now here to shut us down.
CAMBRIA CO, Pa (WJAC) — Officials with Glendale School District announced that they will be moving to remote learning, through Dec. 1, due to an increase in COVID-19 cases among staff and students.
The district adds that several individuals are currently quarantining due to the recent increase in cases.
All extra-curricular activities are suspended at this time and the building will remain closed.

(TCS) — Charlotte is one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities, according to a new U.S. Census report.
Between July 2022 to July 2023, the city gained 15,607 people, reaching a population of 911,311. That is third-highest growth in the U.S. trailing only San Antonio and Fort Worth, Texas, the study found.
Jacksonville and Port St. Lucie, both in Florida, rounded out the top five.
Charlotte also ranked 15th nationally in city populations.
Somerset Co., PA (WJAC) — State police in Somerset County have charged a Berlin man after he was accused of raping an unconscious woman at his home.
Troopers say Christopher Crites, 49, faces charges of rape of an unconscious victim, sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault, according to online court documents.
Investigators say on August 21 of last year, troopers received a report of a sexual assault in which the victim claimed that she had been raped by Crites.
