CB Joey Porter Jr. receives team ROTY award

Pittsburgh (WJAC) — Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Joey Porter Jr. has been named as the team's Rookie of the Year. Porter, who was selected in the second round of the 2023 draft, is just the third Steelers' cornerback to win the "Joe Greene Great Performance Award," joining Delton Hall in 1987 and Chad Scott in 1997. Porter is the son of former Steelers' linebacker Joey Porter, and much like his father, he has made a name for himself with his aggressive style of play.

Windber post office to temporarily close for repairs

Windber, PA (WJAC) — Officials with the United States Postal Service say the post office in Windber will be temporarily closed for repairs. USPS officials say the closure will begin at the end of the business day on Saturday. During the closure, officials say local residents will be able to access their mail at the post office in Elton. The postal service says the repairs to the Windber facility are expected to last approximately one month.

Aid deliveries suspended after rough seas damage US-built temporary pier in Gaza

WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. built temporary pier that had been used to deliver additional humanitarian aid into Gaza was damaged by rough seas and has temporarily suspended operations, three U.S. officials told The Associated Press on Tuesday. The Joint Logistics Over The Shore, or JLOTS, pier only began operations last week and had provided an additional way to get critically needed food to Gaza. Penguins sign F Bryan Rust to 6-year deal

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Bryan Rust is staying in Pittsburgh. The veteran forward, who was scheduled to become a free agent this summer, agreed to a six-year contract with the Penguins that will keep him with the club through 2028. The deal, announced on Saturday, carries an average annual value of $5.125 million. Rust, 30, scored 24 goals to go with a career-best 34 assists this season. Rust said earlier this week he would prefer to remain in Pittsburgh but added “I’ve played at a higher level than what my contract has said the last few years.

Softball team plays first game after the death of teammate

HOLLIDAYSBURG -- Mikayla Focht's Hollidaysburg Area High School softball team played its first game Tuesday since her death and started things off with a moment of silence in her memory. Focht died early Friday in an all-terrain-vehicle crash. Twenty-three-year-old Trenton Bilak was driving the ATV when it struck a deer, police said. Bilak is now in the Bedford County Jail after police determined that he was under the influence at the time of the crash, violating his bond from a DUI charge in December, an official said Tuesday.
